The study is focused on
analysis of macro-fossils, pollen and other macro and micro objects found in
samples (tardigrades, foraminifers etc) and compared with the results of
chemical and sedimentological analysis. Investigations of lacustrine sediments
from tundra lakes or other waterlogged sediments provide data for reconstruction
of vegetation response to past local events. The uniqueness of arctic sediment
record is the even higher due the fact that this area had been protected from
human impact till the recent times.
Due the fact, that Petuniabukta was not
completely glaciated during the "Little Ice Age", it is possible to
assume that the palaeoecology record could cover whole period since the area was
deglaciated in early Holocene and the age of the core base is limited only with
date of terrace uplift.
